Een adelaar in Nederlands-Indië

Na zijn lagereschooltijd werkte hij eerst als boerenknecht in een klein dorp. In 1936 ging hij als KNIL-militair naar Nederlands-Indië. Deze tijd beschrijft hij in Het Adelaarsjong leert vliegen. Na vier jaar KNIL-tijd werd hij vanwege een ongeval medisch afgekeurd, maar bleef in Nederlands-Indië. Deze periode en de tijd in een Jappenkamp tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog wordt beschreven in het tweede deel De Adelaar wordt gekooid. Het laatste deel, De Adelaar herkrijgt zijn vrijheid, verhaalt van de transitie van Nederlands-Indië naar de zelfstandige staat Republiek Indonesië.
